Software Cowboy

We build platforms for businesses that don’t have IT teams, and for those carrying more headcount than they should need. Our software is packaged, simple and clean, so a single specialist can connect and automate the stack the whole business runs on.

Good software compartmentalises the workload, then fades into the seams.

It’s the behind-the-scenes of the back office – the gears turning on a server somewhere that keep things flowing: booking the job, pricing the quote, sending the receipt.

It’s software people stop noticing, because it works, every single time. That’s our mission.

What we do

Software Cowboy builds practical software for businesses that run on real-world operations: crews, customers, schedules, stock and paperwork. In these businesses, a missed step costs real money, and a confusing screen costs real time.

Our motto

Simplicity over abstraction.

Documentation is the product; the code is only syntax. It may not be catchy, but it’s fine and honest.

How we work

A few rules we hold ourselves to. None of them are new. We just don’t skip them.

Security is the foundation

Security is a baseline requirement, not a feature bolted on at the end. We collect only necessary data, keep customers in control of their infrastructure wherever practical, and design systems so isolated issues don’t cascade into broader problems.

Security is our key. Our passion is to empower our users.

Evidence

When we make a security claim, we back it up with evidence: a test, a scan, a configuration or a signed record.

Testing

Security testing is baked into development, paired with independent reviews where warranted. We also hold our own internal systems to recognised Australian security frameworks.

Transparency

Where it makes sense, we make our code available for inspection. Transparency is much harder to fake than a promise.

We may call ourselves cowboys, but we’re engineers through and through.
